Tamara de Lempitski has played so many roles in her life that it is now difficult to understand what was really hidden behind all these masks. One thing is quite certain: the artist was an outstanding woman. The private collection Tamara de Lempicki rewrote her biography several times, striking out inconvenient facts and dates from it. She insisted that she was born in Warsaw on May 11, 1898, but many biographers believe that most likely in Moscow. Since 1914, she has been living in St. Petersburg permanently, where she met her future husband, Tadeusz Lempitsky, the offspring of a rich and distinguished Polish family, at a ball. In 1916 they got married.
