“So why don’t you start by introducing yourself and telling us a little about you?” That’s a request  I’m sure we’ve been asked at some point of time or another, be it by teachers on the first day of school, or from interviews to conversations at social gatherings to simple reflection within oneself. 

 

Taking into account the popular frequency of this query, you’d think by now you’d be prepped with a concise answer, right? Wrong. Because this is just one of those Q’s where the answer changes with each scenario. It’s also one where what you say gives your audience their first impression of you. And considering that first impressions supposedly last forever, you want to make it a good one.

 

Questions, if framed correctly can provide you with great insight of another person, as well as keep up an effortless conversational flow. Below are some such questions that can serve at providing you with unlimited material and making you a great convo partner, as well as providing you with some insight about yourself.

 

Getting to know you questions

 

These are some basic starters that will help you gauge the other person and quickly establish familiarity in a light manner. Another plus is that they’re a better alternative to the usual ‘what are some of your hobbies’ constant.

 

  1. What’s the meaning of your name? Why did your parents choose it for you?
  2. Are you originally from the place where you’re staying currently?

  4. Do you have any phobias? If so, why do you think you have them?
  5. Who was your first friend?
  6. Which was your least, and favorite subject?
  7. Which is one place you want to travel to before you die? 
  8. If you were confined to your room for some reason, what things would you want to have with you for that time?
  9. If you could get a tattoo, what would it be and why? Also, where would you put it? If you already do, what does it symbolize?
  10. What would you title your autobiography if you wrote one?

  10. You’re babysitting this kid, and the kid keeps refusing to sleep because he believes there are monsters under his bed. How do you convince him to sleep?
  11. Have you had some part of your routine in the past that you’ve changed drastically now? 
  12. Do you have some habits that are considered unconventional by the, ah, ‘societal norms’? (biting instead of licking an ice-cream/lollipop, pouring you milk in first before your cereal, wearing your shoes on your bed, etc)
  13. If you could be an animal for a day, which one would you be and why?
  14. Would you trust a friend with your life? Which of your friends would you implicitly and blindly trust, and which one would you rely on the least?

  5. Have you ever been lost as a child and thought that you were never going to see your family again?

  7. Bullying and cyberbullying can have detrimental effects on mental health of kids, especially with the rise in the popularity of social media. Do you think that it should be necessary for kids under a certain age to be exposed to such things only with parental supervision?
  8. What’s something that you’ve done recently that’s changed everyone’s perspective about you including yourself; what was it about doing this that surprised you so much?
  9. Do you think that there are some crimes that are unforgivable, but aren’t penalized as harshly as, for instance, someone charged with murder? If so, what are these acts?

  16. Should it be illegal for people who will be unable to raise a child, that is those that are unable to provide all the sufficient requirements like food, care, a stable household and so one, to be allowed to keep them?

 

Deep questions about you 

 

By addressing these questions, whether it be to yourself to find out what your life goals are, or to simply get to know another person better, this is a helpful exercise that will help you reflect on the choices you’d take and who you are.

Apart from that, sharing an in depth glance into your persona renders you vulnerable in front of another, which in turn makes them more comfortable in sharing facts about themselves!

  9. What is it about you that makes your friends close to you?
  10. What is something you’re doing that’s standing between you and success? 
  11. Do you take things too seriously? 
  12. Do you fear being forgotten after your death and fading into oblivion?
  13. Do you have a favorite book or movie? What is it about it that makes it your favorite? Why do you think that it’s your favorite?
  14. Are you the kind of person who approaches people first? Or do you let others do it before? If not, what is it that stops you from doing so?
  15. In a hypothetical scenario, you find out that someone close to you (family or a close friend) is suffering from a sickness which can prove to be near-fatal if they don’t receive 

 

Even deeper questions about you life

 

Sometimes, just sitting down for a bit and reflecting and introspecting about your varied life choices is just simply refreshing. It provides much-needed clarity as to whether you’re going the direction you want to be heading, as well as to whether you need to be changing up some things about the way you make decisions and the kind of people you interact with on the daily

  1. How do you wish to die? (Old age right obviously, but I meant do you wish to be surrounded by your loved ones, or alone?)
  2. A simple reflection, but what was something that made you happy today?
  3. What’s something that worries you about your future?
  4. What’s something that you fear and why? 
  5. If you could go back to a conversation you’ve had earlier at some point in your life, would you change anything?
  6. Aside from conversation, is there any specific interaction that looking back, you wish you’d have done differently? Why is that?
  7. Have you ever had any broken relationships( friends, significant others, family members)? Who or what was the cause of the fracture? Do you feel that it was right to let that person or people go?
  8. Is there anybody that you miss so much that it physically hurts you to even think about them?
  9. Is there anyone (besides yourself lol) that’s holding you back?
  10. Is there anyone in your life with whom you wish you could interact more? What’s stopping you from that?
  11. Think of the last 5 people that you’ve spoken to, or had some form of interaction with in the last 24hrs. If you could tell each one of these people something without fearing any repercussions, what would it be?
  12. Do you think that by focussing on something, you somehow send out a positive frequency to the Universe which grants you that request?
  13. If you had to cut off your best friend in order to save them from something (we’re talking no interaction forever, directly or indirectly), would you be able to muster up the courage to vanish from their lives forever?
  14. Are you really happy with the life you’re living now?
  15. Do you wish you were working another profession or in another company than your current one?
  16. Do you wish you had a different friend group from the one you currently interact with?
